The You Tube Clips

Hi John,

I just got finished watching your latest YouTube video on how sick you are about the Michael Jackson media frenzy.  Me too.  I have talked to family, friends and co-workers and it has been all the same—they are so sad about the "king of pop" being dead. But what concerns me is not that they are sad that a fellow human being has died, it is how the death of Michael Jackson somehow is different than any other death that occurred during that day.

I stopped looking at anything on television dealing with Michael Jackson a few days ago.  It was sickening to me to hear all these people act like the man was a saint and that he deserved a good afterlife because of his music.  Now don't get me wrong, the man was talented and not just talented, but exceptionally talented. But where was the discussion about the state of that man's soul when he died? Whenever I considered the man from a spiritual perspective, even when he was alive, I was troubled. Michael was a tormented man in this life and his fruit showed that. To me, the sad part about this isn't that he died, because as you said, we all will die one day. But it is the state of the man's soul when he entered into death. And pondering that put me in a place where I could no longer stomach anything related to Michael Jackson.

At the same time, his death and how it came suddenly—at least to us as the viewing audience—should have us all pondering on where we stand with the Lord today.  Any one of us could be taken out of here at any moment and what is going to matter is what is status with Jesus Christ right now at this very moment. This is a time where we as Christians need to put 2 Corinthians 13:5 into practice and really examine ourselves to see whether we are truly in the faith. It's a time to be watchful about what our hearts and our minds to make sure that they are centered on God and not the things of this world.

My wife and I have recently been reading Ecclesiastes and what a deep book of the Bible this is.  The author—whom I believe is Solomon but other theologians have said otherwise—talks about the meaning of life in a way that puts everything into perspective. "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity." (Ecclesiastes 1:2) What is amazing is that this author has experienced all the pleasures of this world and did more in his life that probably 70 people together could dream of attaining. But it is the conclusion he comes to that is the most powerful of the book because he points out that without God, everything amounts to nothing. "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

Those last two verses of Ecclesiastes are ecthed into my mind and I pray that God continues His work in my life.  I pray the same for all the other Christian brothers and sisters scattered across the globe. If we are to learn anything from Michael Jackson's story, it is that we are lost without Jesus Christ and that we are all filthy and wretched sinners in need of Christ's salvation. The fact that I know what I am without Christ makes me continue to lean on Him. I pray that as believers consider Michael Jackson, that it will cause us to be even more thankful for Christ's salvation, to reflect on our own lives in light of God's word and to consider our ways.

Blessings,

Landus

Another Christian that has come to know the truth from that which is false:  Greetings Pastor,

I enjoyed your Hermeneutic lessons. I had just came from the Wednesday night meeting at church and I really needed those lessons. I am not the smartest guy in the block, but I know a few things. I expected more from my Pastor, but I was disappointed.  This is second time in 3-4 years that I have been disappointed in a Pastor. Seems like when you get in the pulpit, you loose something. A Pastor has the most dangerous job in the world, he has to answer to God for every word he said from that pulpit.  I would run from the Pastor-ship..... I guess you can tell that I have not been called :)  So what was said, here is what was said with just token Bible references in a 30 minute prayer meeting / Bible study.  Pentecost (Acts 2):  Is not the start of the Church

There isn't a universal Church Is not when the Holy Spirit started to fill people Is not when the Holy Spirit started to indwell Christians Is not the first coming of the Holy Spirit Dispensation is in the bible and you will only find it is a commentary written by a man.  Pentecost was really about believer coming together and praying for the power of the Holy Spirit and then going out to see 3000 souls saved.  My problem wasn't with what he said, but my problem was he didn't show how he got from point a to point b. I need to see how you got your doctrine.  Later this (June 26) evening when I was leaving the local Christian bookstore I saw two square clay plates on the sidewalk. I picked them up and returned them to the store. But the store staff said they don't carry that product and have never seen it before.

What was on these two square clay plates, that you would hang on your wall.  Plate one said: As for me and my house. We shall serve the LORD - Josh 24:15 Plate two said: May peace and love fill this home.  Maybe a message from God..... just Maybe!  Stay in the word Pastor. We are in for a ride! It will get very hard for Christians. Another issue is that most Americans are not the same quality they used to be! No morals, just a sin loving people who look out for themselves.  God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  Take care Pastor!

And Still; Another Letter;  Hi Pastor John,

My name is Pat, and I thought that it was time for me to say how much I have grown as a result of your website.  I truly appreciate the time and effort you have expended to educate individuals on the true WORD.  I have learned so much that I did not even know existed.  I was content to let pastors educate me on what the WORD said, thinking that if it came from the pulpit that it was correct.  Of course, there have been some things that I had heard in a pulpit that seemed confusing, but I use to chalk it up to my misunderstanding.

To give you some background about me, I grew up in a Presbyterian church.  My father is still living (he is 89, however, my mother passed away in 1973).  I do not remember going to church as a family, but I use to walk to church once or twice a month as a child.  I grew up in Virginia.  When I was 22, I lived with my then husband in California.  A distant relative introduced me to Frederick K.C. Price (not literally, but to who he was).  We were supposed to go to his church, but due to this distant relative's car trouble, we were not able to go.  Anyway, I got caught up into the Word of Faith movement.  I could probably write a book about things that occurred afterwards.  My husband and I were the military, and after two or three years, we were stationed overseas, so there was a period when I could not watch Price on television.  When we returned stateside, I noticed that other Word of Faith ministers had become "popular", and I listened also to their preaching/teaching.

I did not join any local churches, but got my preaching/teaching from television.  In April of 1998, after a divorce, I rededicated my life to Christ, and joined a local Baptist Church.  I did not consider myself a Baptist, but a Christian.  The teaching was okay, but it differed from most of what I had learned listening to Word of Faither preachers.  Just to state some of the teachings that I got, I thought man (to include  woman) was a "little god".  I also thought that I had (and did) to tithe ten percent of my gross salary to the church, or that I was not obeying God.  At the Baptist church, they also taught tithing, but encouraged one to give what they could and "work up to" the ten percent. I was also taught in the word of faith doctrine that blessings were tied to my giving, and my troubles were tied to my not giving.  You know, the same thing they (WOF) all teach.  Anyway, I accepted all of the teaching because they did use scripture when preaching/teaching.  They (WOF) made the scripture seem to say exactly what they were preaching/teaching.

To keep this email short, and I am sorry if I am too long winded, but my whole life was affected in a negative way by this false teaching, in the summer of 2008, my GOD I believe, led me to the pulpit-pimp.org website.  I was doing some searching for a friend who wanted to take a trip to Israel, and I remembered that Bishop Eddie Long's church was sponsoring such a trip.  Long's website did not come up first in a Google search, but Melvin Jones pulpit-pimps.org  site did.  That site, along with your site, and others, have given me such a education.  Honestly, I did not know what exegesis, isegesis, reformed, hermeneutics, Calvinism, or many other terms meant.  As a result of your site, I have this hunger to learn the true WORD.

Your website is very educational.  Some of the videos I have had problems trying to watch them, but, I have still received such an education.  I have a long way to go.  I am just at the tip of the iceberg.  So thank you very much for your faith, your example, your dedication, and your perseverance.  Faithfully Into the WORD   Pat

Hermeneutic Lessons /   Kind of short but the rest follow a bit later this week.  I am seeking to define how to look at the scriptures and to break down the interpretations of the texts without fooling yourself.  How many times have you listened to men and women wreck the meaning of the scriptures and thereby misleading you.  The introduction is short but the rest of the series will follow as I attempt to give full and descriptive analysis of the term "hermeneutics" and it's value to people in our community.  We must make the leap from the material to the spiritual on to the voyage of the biblical.  If we are to call ourselves Christians; lets put some substance to our faith, as opposed to the shallowness that has overrun most of today's church ministries.  Pastor John E. Coleman
